During the Falklands War in 1982, the ship was carrying 3,000 soldiers and 650 volunteers. Later, that year, the QE2 back into the ocean crossing vessel and then painted with classic Cunard colors.

QE2 is now bought by a company in the Emirates, and the plan on November 11, 2008 will sail to Dubai, refurbished, and used as a floating hotel at Palm Jumeirah.
